SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Volunteers worked together with United Way of Pioneer Valley at MGM Springfield Tuesday to prepare kids for the upcoming school year.

Back to School: Healthy sleeping routines for your children

Dozens helped to stuff more than 100 backpacks full of supplies. Each bag will be given to a student from Springfield Public Schools. Those items include pencils, pens, markers, graph paper, and calculators.

United Way of Pioneer Valley has been working closely with the Springfield school system to make sure each child has the correct supplies for their designated grade.

“Sitting here today, knowing that these items were donated or certainly sponsored, it fills our heart,” Jennifer McGrath, Director of Philanthropy & Community Engagement at MGM Springfield expressed. “Right now, I think the need is everything and those who donated stepped up.”

Mayor Sarno also attended the event and presented United Way with a $1,000 check to support the ongoing back-to-school effort.

Students will return to school in Springfield starting Monday, August 26.
