SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – National Night Out events continued Tuesday in the North End of Springfield to provide opportunities for residents to build trust with their local first responders.

Attendees enjoyed food, games, and other activities while getting to know their neighborhood officers in a different light at Jaime Ulloa Park.

Springfield police told 22News this event is a great way to strengthen the bond between law enforcement and the people they serve.

“It gives us an opportunity to engage with them in a situation where it’s a pleasant situation and it’s a comfortable situation and we get to network and make friends and have a good time,” said Springfield Police Captain Ariel Toledo.

A total of 69 cities across Massachusetts are holding “National Night Out” events throughout the month to build stronger communities.
