SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – MSPCA will be holding an adoptathon event for dogs all week long.

Adoption fees will be waived for dogs more than one year old statewide, including at Dakin Humane Society, Thomas J. O’Connor Animal Control and Adoption Center, and Berkshire Humane Society.

“Our own population of dogs is increasing, and we know that our coalition partners also have plenty of great dogs in their care that need a little boost,” said Mike Keiley, MSPCA-Angell vice president of animal protection. “That’s why we’re starting with a special dog adoption event, even while our other coalition work gets underway, like behavior outreach and increasing veterinary resources in the Springfield area.”

This event is in part of special adoption events throughout late August and early September for a wide variety of species to free up space in shelters throughout Massachusetts. All four of MSPCA’s shelters will also participate in the fee-waived adoption event.

MSPCA hopes to rehome at least 200 dogs during the seven-day event. Hours vary by location .
