SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Greater Springfield area is proudly celebrating a remarkable achievement in youth basketball.
Four local teams emerged victorious in their respective divisions at the prestigious Caribbean International Shootout basketball tournament that was held in Bayamón, Puerto Rico from July 17th to the 21st. The tournament brought together teams from the Dominican Republic, Turks & Caicos, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and of course from the birthplace of basketball representing the United States.
In an impressive show of skill and determination, four of the six Springfield-based teams claimed championship titles, each finishing with an undefeated 4-0 record. These young basketball players told 22News that it was an unforgettable experience.
They were thrilled to reconnect with their Puerto Rican roots, as well as marvel at this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play basketball of this caliber on an international stage. These young athletes felt immense pride being able to bring home a trophy to commemorate this momentous occasion in their lives.
