    First results of primaries early voting released

    BOSTON, Mass. (WWLP)– Nearly half a million Massachusetts registered voters, so far, have opted to vote early for the September primary.

    According to Secretary of the Commonwealth William Galvin’s office, as of 4pm on Monday 405,204 votes have been cast, a combination of in-person and vote by mail.

    The breakdown is as follows:

    • Vote by Mail Applications Received: 994,765
    • Ballots Mailed: 983,823
    • Ballots Returned: 398,093
    • Early Voting Turnout: 7,111
    • Total Ballots Cast: 405,204 –   Democratic: 332,795  Republican: 69,775  Libertarian: 2,634
    • % Ballots Returned: 40.5%
    • % Voter Turnout: 8.1%

    Early in-person voting for the September primary runs through Friday, August 30. Voters who applied to vote by mail, but have not yet returned a ballot can still vote in person, instead. Those who have already returned their mail-in ballot will be marked off on the voting list and will not be able to vote again.

    Voters can go to the Secretary of the Commonwealth’s website to find their community’s early voting locations and schedule, locate their local election office, or register to vote.
