WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Big E’s long-time mission to support the agricultural community of New England kicked off Thursday.

Sip and Slide returned for its 4th annual 21+ fundraiser at the Eastern States Exposition, just weeks away from the Big E kicking off in West Springfield on September 13.

“All of the excitement and wonderful things that go on at the fair, all of that supports agriculture,” said Nancy Delson, Easter States Exposition. The fairgrounds invited the community to raise money for youth agriculture programs, with a childhood favorite for everyone to take part in. For many, the best part of the fundraiser, going down the slide without feeling guilty about your age.

Eventgoers re-lived their childhood to slide for a cause, “I got up there and I was like ‘oh this is fine’ and then halfway down I was like ‘oh no’,” shared Nikki Perlot. Others at the event were happy to take part in the mission of the Big E.

Agriculture is an important component of the economy, and we obviously wouldn’t be eating without it,” said Katie Tivnan. The sold-out event is expected to return next year, which connects children in the Northeast with opportunities to explore agriculture. It as well educates and engages visitors in agricultural practices and fosters an appreciation for the industry, all while bringing adults back to memory lane.
