SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A new mural was unveiled Wednesday evening in downtown Springfield, honoring the life and legacy of Milagros Terry Rodriguez.

The mural was painted on the side of the New North Citizens Council on Main Street. Rodriguez worked there for over 30 years, dedicating her life to helping others and serving the Springfield community.

Wednesday, her contributions to the city are being remembered. Latoya Peoples, a Mural Artist told 22News, “She helped a lot of people heal from substance abuse issues. She did community activism work—just really helping the people heal from trauma. So that’s where the butterflies come in–that symbol of transformation and thriving. Looking towards the future.”

Several local students were also awarded scholarships this evening in honor of Rodriguez.
