Missouri lawsuits allege abuse by Catholic priests, nuns. Archdiocese leader in Omaha among them
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Sixty people allege in new lawsuits filed in Missouri that they were abused as children by dozens of Catholic priests, nuns and others, and the man who now leads the Archdiocese of Omaha, Nebraska, is among the accused. Five separate lawsuits seeking unspecified damages were filed this week in St. Louis and neighboring counties. All told, the lawsuits name 56 alleged abusers. The suits seek unspecified damages. Among those named is Omaha Archbishop George Lucas. He is accused of abusing a teenage boy at St. Louis Preparatory Seminary in the late 1980s. Lucas strongly denies the allegations, saying in a statement that he has never had sexual contact with another person.
Columbus and Fremont to play regular season high school football game at Memorial Stadium
LINCOLN - Columbus and Fremont will play the 105th meeting of the historic F&C Cup, Highway 30 rivalry at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln on Saturday, Sept. 21. Originally scheduled to be played in Fremont, the two squads will face off in a stand-alone game at the home of the Huskers. This is the same week that Nebraska hosts Illinois on Friday night. Bayard man sentenced for falsification of union financial reports
United States Attorney Susan Lehr announced that Donald Fox, 55, of Bayard, Nebraska, was sentenced on July 24, 2024 in federal court in Lincoln, Nebraska for four counts of falsification of annual financial reports filed by a labor union. Senior United States District Judge John M. Gerrard sentenced Fox to four years of probation. Fox will also have to serve five weekends in jail. Fox has also been ordered to pay $14,874.05 in restitution to the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 1836. Prior to sentencing, Fox paid $9,746.07 in restitution back to the union.
Local Truck Inspections Held in Fremont
Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) Carrier Enforcement Division conducted local commercial vehicle inspections on July 23rd and 24th in Fremont, Nebraska. During this effort, the Metropolitan Aggressive and Prevention Selective (MAPS) Team conducted 66 vehicle inspections. Troopers discovered 154 violations of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and state law. Troopers placed 16 vehicles out of service (not allowed to return to the road). Additionally, troopers issued a total of 35 CVSA decals. The decals indicate that the vehicle inspected did not have any immediate safety issues.
