WYOMING, Mich. (WOOD) — Helicopter video released by police shows a motorcyclist trying to get away from officers in Wyoming Thursday night before eventually being taken into custody.

The Wyoming Police Department told News 8 that shortly before 11 p.m., one of its officers tried to stop a motorcycle for stunt riding and for having an unreadable license plate, but the motorcyclist took off.

The motorcycle was tracked by a Michigan State Police helicopter. MSP posted a video of the chase on social media Friday. It shows a motorcyclist driving the wrong way, using a sidewalk when he came to a dead-end street to get to another street and cutting through parking lots.

When the motorcyclist stopped under trees to try and hide from the helicopter, Wyoming officers caught up to him and told him to get off the motorcycle, the police department said. He then took off.

Once out of the Wyoming Police Department’s jurisdiction, MSP took over and tried to stop him in Grand Rapids. The motorcyclist pulled over and was taken into custody.

The police department said that he was handed over to Wyoming officers and is being held in the Kent County jail for fleeing and eluding. His name has not been released.
