Wyoming High School Boys Basketball Scoreboard: Feb. 12-17, 2024
The prep basketball season in Wyoming is winding down with Week 11 of 2024. Teams in Class 1A and 2A conclude their regular season this week. That means more jockeying for seeding at next week’s regional tournaments. The big schools, in 4A and 3A, have two weeks left. For 3A, it’s a mix of cross-quad and conference games. Class 4A is only league play. Some interclass games are also on the schedule. Five games feature ranked teams going head-to-head.
PhotoFest: Laramie Sweeps Natrona in 4A Basketball
The basketball season is heading down the stretch and in 4A hoops on Friday, Laramie paid a visit to Casper to meet Natrona in boys and girls play. The boys' game featured two top 5 teams in our WyoPreps poll as Laramie came in ranked 2nd and Natrona 4th. The visiting Plainsmen jumped out to a 9-point lead after one-quarter of play but it was tightly contested after that. Laramie prevailed 57-44 and was led by Jaden Smith with 16 and Neil Summers chipped in a dozen. Summers has been sensational this season as he is averaging 17 points and 11 rebounds per game. Max Alexander has been a force offensively averaging 14 points a game. The Laramie boys finished the weekend with an 83-81 overtime win over Sheridan to improve to 15-2.
Wyoming High School Girls Basketball Scoreboard: Feb. 12-17, 2024
It’s the final week of the regular season for Class 1A and 2A teams. That means only two weeks are left for Class 3A and 4A schools. Week 11 of the season means some jockeying for regional seeding continues. A lot of conference games are on the schedule, but there are some other match-ups, like interclass and cross-quadrant games. Only five games this week feature ranked teams squaring off against each other.
Caleb Ortberg of Kelly Walsh Shining in the Indoor Hurdles
Kelly Walsh track athlete Caleb Ortberg has been solid in the 55-meter hurdle event on the indoor circuit this season and won the Casper Meet on Saturday with a clocking of 7.85. He had a really good meet overall as his 4x200 and 4x400 meter relays took first as well. Ortberg has won the 55-meter hurdles in Casper, Laramie and the 2nd Gillette meet with a 3rd place finish in the first Gillette Meet. His time of 7.81 in that 2nd event in Campbell County is the best in the state so far this season.

Wyoming High School Boys Basketball Standings: Feb. 11, 2024
The boys' basketball season in Wyoming has gone through ten weeks in the 2024 season. There is one team left with zero losses. Three more schools have just one loss during this season. As the regular season winds down, Class 1A and 2A teams will close out their league action this week. For the big school divisions, two weeks are remaining in the regular season. Powell in Class 3A is the lone undefeated team, and they just survived two overtime games. Below are the current standings that include all games played through Feb. 10, 2024.
Wyoming High School Girls Basketball Standings: Feb. 11, 2024
Teams in Wyoming have finished ten weeks of the 2024 high school girls' basketball season. The regular season is almost over for the lower two classifications. That means just a handful of conference games remain. For the top two classes, there are two weeks left in the regular season. Douglas is the last undefeated team in girls' basketball in the state. Three teams have only lost one game. These standings include all games played through Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024.
How the WyoPreps Top 5 Basketball Teams Fared in Week 10 of the 2024 Season
Week 10 of the prep basketball season in Wyoming has come and gone. Here is our weekly recap to give fans, players, and coaches a look at each week’s results for just the ranked teams in the WyoPreps Coaches and Media Basketball Polls. A No. 1 team went down, and a couple of others had some close calls. For the week, six girls’ and eight boys’ teams in the most recent rankings lost at least one game last week. The last undefeated boys’ team, class 4A’s Cheyenne Central suffered their first loss. Three of the top four in 4A boys’ basketball took a loss. Seven of the 14 teams in our top 5 who lost a game did so against another ranked team.
2024 Wyoming High School Boys Swimming and Diving State Championships
The 2024 Wyoming High School Boys’ Swimming and Diving State Championships are Thursday through Saturday in Laramie. The Laramie High School Natatorium hosts the Class 4A Championships on Thursday and Friday, followed by the Class 3A Championships on Friday and Saturday. Twenty-five teams will be competing over the three days of the culminating weekend. This is a breakdown of both classifications, the defending champions, and the schedule.
PhotoFest! Casper Indoor Track Meet
The Indoor Track season rolled along on Saturday in Casper with the Mustang Invite and this was the first big meet at Natrona with the first scheduled event cancelled due to weather conditions. On the girls' side, Laramie placed first in the team standings with 107.5 points, Kelly Walsh 2nd with 98.5. Natrona 3rd with 69.5. Torrington is 4th with 68.5 and Cheyenne Central 5th with 61. Here is a rundown of the top two finishers in each event.
Weekend Poll: Should Wyoming Get Rid Of Most Gun-Free Zones?
A bill that would eliminate most gun-free zones under Wyoming law has been filed for the upcoming session of the Wyoming Legislature. You can read House Bill 125 here. The bill would specify that anyone who can carry a concealed weapon in Wyoming could carry a gun into governmental meetings, including those of the legislature and local governmental meetings, such as city council and county commission meetings.
Porter Merritt From Star Valley is in the 100-Win Club
Star Valley’s Porter Merritt passed the 100-win milestone in his prep wrestling career earlier this season. The senior wrestles at 150 pounds for the Braves. He is 39-9 during the 2024 season with 23 pins. Merritt is a three-time state qualifier and two-time state placer. The state wrestling championships for this year are two weeks away.

Two months into the high school basketball season, WyoPreps highlights some of the top performances to this point of the 2024 season. We look at the top-three scoring games plus the most rebounds, assists, steals, and blocked shots. WyoPreps also highlights the leaders in double-doubles and anyone who has recorded a triple-double this season. We will update our peak performers post a few more times for the 2024 season.

Buffalo’s Briley Farris is Heading to the Univ. of Mary (ND) for Cross Country, Track
Buffalo senior Briley Farris will continue her running career after signing her National Letter of Intent to compete at the University of Mary in Bismarck, ND, for cross country and track and field. Farris has competed in cross country and outdoor track at Buffalo High School. She is a three-time all-state performer during the outdoor track season.
Anderson, Bruegger, and Sawyer Earn WyoPreps Athlete of the Week Honors 2-7-24 [VIDEOS]
The Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Wyoming WyoPreps Athlete of the Week honors for Feb. 7, 2024, go to a girls’ wrestler and two basketball players who share the boys’ accolade. Moorcroft senior Rebekah Anderson is the girls’ winner. The boys’ winners are Joe Sawyer from Cheyenne Central and Cory Bruegger of Lusk. All three had terrific performances, individually and helping their team, during competitions between Jan. 29 and Feb. 3, 2024.

Bigger Changes in the Boys Part of the WyoPreps Basketball Polls
A new No. 1 and three new teams in the boys’ rankings highlight the latest WyoPreps Coaches and Media Basketball Polls. Three of the four boys’ divisions saw a change. The girls’ poll shuffled teams around in all four classes, but no new teams entered the rankings.
