Lander Wrestler Hunter Velarde Signs with Colby Community College
Lander's Hunter Velarde had 2 very productive seasons on the mat for the Tigers and he will take his wrestling skills to Colby Community College in Kansas. In 2024, Velarde took 2nd place at the 3A State Tournament at 150 pounds and finished the season 37-10. He also finished 2nd at State in 2023 in the 3A 138-pound bracket and rang up a solid record of 33-13. In his sophomore season, Velarde qualified for the 3A State Tournament and went 2-2, en route to a 14-17 season. He rang up over 100 wins in his career with Lander and that's impressive.
Sheridan’s Addie Pendergast Wins Gatorade Wyoming Girls Track and Field Player of the Year Again
Sheridan’s Addie Pendergast has won her second straight Gatorade Wyoming Girls Track and Field Player of the Year award after The Gatorade Company announced her as the 2023-24 honoree for the state on Tuesday. Pendergast is the second winner in school history. She joins Kaylyn Doyle, who won this award in 2001-02.
Ben Whitright from Cheyenne East to Wrestle for North Idaho
Ben Whitright moved up the wrestling ladder in his career at Cheyenne East and his steady improvement earned him a spot on the North Idaho College roster. He took 3rd place at the 2024 4A State Tournament at 120 pounds with a win over Dylan Sorensen from Kelly Walsh for the bronze medal and finished the season with a record of 39-18.
Wyoming Legion Baseball Scoreboard: June 25-30, 2024
Wyoming’s Legion Baseball season reaches Week 13 of 2024. Three big in-state tournaments in Green River, Gillette, and Cheyenne highlight this week’s slate of games. Eleven teams from Wyoming will participate in those three events. A couple of teams will head to Billings for tournament action, and one is part of a tournament in Nevada. There are 13 conference doubleheaders on this week’s schedule, as well.

Wyoming Legion Baseball Standings: June 24, 2024
The 2024 American Legion baseball season in Wyoming has completed 12 weeks. After conference and tournament games last week, there have been some shifts in the standings. Casper and Cheyenne are now tied atop the AA standings. Lovell moved to the top of the A Northwest division, while Evanston took the lead in the A Southwest. Casper remains on top of the A East. All but four teams have won at least one conference game this season. The standings include all games played through June 23, 2024.

Natrona Hosts Inaugural Lineman Football Clinic
Natrona County High School in Casper played host to the very first Central Wyoming Big Man Clinic for offensive and defensive linemen in football. Over 70 players from around the state, regardless of classification took part in the one-day camp. The O-Line guys received coaching and insight about footwork, upper and lower body power, and being very smart on the line of scrimmage. The D-Line guys are.
Ruby Hoelscher of Jackson Named Gatorade POY in Girls Soccer
The Gatorade Girls Soccer Player of the Year in Wyoming is Ruby Hoelscher from Jackson. She had a phenomenal freshman season for the Broncs with 28 goals and 15 assists. That goal mark led 4A by leaps and bounds and attempted 74 shots on goal in the 2024 season. That 74 mark in the shots on goal category also led 4A by a wide margin.

Jackie Meador of Big Piney Signs with Northwest College
Jackie Meador of Big Piney will continue his athletic journey as he will attend Northwest College in Powell and wrestle for the Trappers. He won a 2A State Championship back in 2023 in the 2A 113-pound weight class with a 10-6 win over Grady Longwell of Glenrock. Meador finished the season with a record of 29-9.
Green River’s Kale Knezovich Signs with W. Wyoming for Wrestling
As one of only 30 wrestlers to win a State Championship 4 times in their careers, Green River's Kale Knezovich will go down as one the finest prep grapplers in the history of the state. He'll stay right in the neighborhood to wrestle at the next level, commuting to Rock Springs to compete for Western Wyoming College.
Wyoming Track Athletes Compete in Big National Meets
More than a few star track athletes from Wyoming competed in huge national meets from coast to coast this month and there were some stellar performances turned in. On top of the list was Valerie Jirak from Star Valley who won the heptathlon at the Nike Outdoor Nationals in Eugene, Oregon. She placed first in the 200-meter dash at 24.73, the high jump at 5-4, the long jump going 19-2, and the 800-meter run in 2.18.16. Her point total of 5201 was a personal best by close to 300 points. Jirak won the 4A State Championship in the high jump and was 2nd in the long jump.

The Wyoming Girls All-Star Basketball team had their hands full with Montana this year as they dropped both games of the series over the weekend. On Friday in Gillette, Wyoming dropped a 90-68 decision and was led in scoring by Cami Curtis of Campbell County with 10. The Montana squad had a host of players that will be playing college basketball and four of those at the Division 1 level.
Wyoming Boys Basketball All-Stars Postgame Remarks
The Wyoming Boys All-Star basketball team finally broke through with a win in their series with Montana on Friday in Gillette with an 83-62 victory. The Wyoming guys had lost the previous 22 meetings with Montana but it was a different story at the Pronghorn Center as the home team took the game over in the 3rd quarter and never looked back.
Montana Sweeps Wyoming In Girls Basketball All-Star Series
It's been a while since the Wyoming Girls All-Star basketball team has beaten Montana in their annual series and the losing streak is now 15 games in a row. On Friday in Gillette, Wyoming lost 90-68 as Montana employed some tough-as-nails defense plus the Big Sky girls had a significant height advantage. Cami Curtis of Campbell County was Wyoming's leading scorer with 10, Bradie Schlabs from Cheyenne East had 8 with Adeline Burgess from Sheridan along with Addy Thorington of Powell chipping in 6 apiece.
Wyoming Sweeps Montana in Boys All-Star Basketball Series
The Wyoming Boys basketball team finally beat Montana in their annual All-Star Series not once but twice! On Friday in Gillette, Wyoming broke a 22-game losing streak to Montana with a convincing 83-62 win. The Cowboy State guys opened up a big lead in the 3rd quarter and never looked back plus they played with a lot more energy than Montana did.
Molly Hays and Dane Steel Win Milward Simpson Awards 2024
Molly Hays from Cody and Dane Steel of Sheridan were named the 49th annual and 2024 Milward Simpson Award winners on Saturday at an awards luncheon in Cody. This is considered the most prestigious award a prep student-athlete can receive from their high school career. One girl and one boy are chosen from five girls and five boys finalists. The award started in 1976.
