XENIA, Ohio ( WDTN ) — Two Xenia Police officers have been placed on administrative leave after a police-action shooting Sunday that left a person injured and one person has been arrested.

Police released an update Tuesday afternoon that the suspect, identified as Kyle Berry, has been released from the Miami Valley Hospital and taken into custody.

Berry is being booked into Greene County Jail on the following charges:

    • one count of Felonious Assault (victim is a peace officer), 2903.11(A2), a felony of the first-degree
    • one count of Felonious Assault, 2903.11(A)(2), a felony of the second degree

Berry will be arraigned in the Xenia Municipal Court at a later date. Additional charges may be filed once the case is presented to the Green County grand jury.

A press release describes the move to place the officers on leave as routine following such an event. It says that the officers will remain on administrative leave “until further notice.”

One of the officers, according to Xenia Police, has 16 years of law enforcement experience, while the other has 10.

Officers had been dispatched to the 100 block of Bellbrooke Avenue around 7:30 a.m. Sunday, June 30, on a report of a person firing a pistol. The caller told dispatch that the person with the gun had pointed it at them at some point.

Upon arrival, officers located the subject outside of the apartment.

“Shortly after the officers arrived on scene, shots were fired and the suspect was injured,” Xenia PD said in an earlier release.
