Forbush High School students Salem Parker and Arden Finney were awarded the 2024 Jecholiah Dinkins Hollar Legacy Scholarship.

The scholarship is administered by the North Carolina Community Foundation.

Parker was a four-sport athlete, participated in Beta Club, Student Council, Civic Club, Theater and Chorus. She also served as the school’s 2023 Homecoming Queen. After completing her degree at High Point University, Parker plans to return to Yadkin County to continue to serve her community.

Finney, the class of 2024 secretary, excelled on the softball field. She played for both Forbush High School and a competitive travel team. She used her passion for the sport to volunteer with Special Olympics athletes. Finney will continue her softball career at Guilford College with a future goal of completing a law degree at Elon University.

The Jecholiah Dinkins Hollar Legacy Scholarship is awarded annually to students graduating in Yadkin County, who plan to attend a private, four-year college or university located in North Carolina with preference given to students planning to attend Duke University.
