    Multiple evacuations still in place for Retreat/Rimrock Fire, now 8,000 acres

    RIMROCK, Wash. -- Updated at 10:30 p.m.: The Retreat/Rimrock Fire is now 8,000 acres with 0% containment.


    The Retreat/Rimrock Fire started on Tuesday, July 23rd, 2024. It started in Yakima County on US-12 at Rainbow Rock Ln. The cause is currently unknown. Below is a list of up to date information on both fires.

    Acreage: 8,000

    Containment: 0%

    Level 3 (GO NOW!) Evacuations:

    • All areas of Rimrock Retreat and any camper west of Rimrock Retirement
    • From the Tieton Reservoir Path and US-12 Freeway to the east end of Windy Point Campground
    • 5 miles north and 5 miles south on both sides of US 12 Freeway, between Tieton Reservoir Road and Windy Point Campground

    Level 2 (BE SET!) Evacuations:

    • From US Hwy 12 at Bear Canyon Trailhead (NF 1301 Forest Service Road) northeast to the “Y” (Hwy 12/410)
    • From “Y” (Hwy 12/410) south along the borders of the Town of Cowiche and the Town of Tieton to Cowiche Mill Road
    • Cowiche Mill Road west to NF 641 Forest Service Road
    • NF 641 Forest Service Road North to Hwy 12
    • Cowiche Road East to Summitview Road
    • Summitview Road North to the 4 way stop at West Tieton Road
    • West on West Tieton Road to end of West Tieton Road
    • The West border is the end of West Tieton Road south to the 3600 block of Cowiche Road

    Evacuation Resources: For those attending Camp Ghormley they are evacuating and heading to Naches Valley School District Elementary School. Due to Hwy 12 being closed, they are having to go west to Cayuse Pass and then down Hwy 410 to Naches. Estimated ETA 2245 hrs.

    Closures: US-12 is closed from White Pass (MP 151) to Oak Creek (MP 183)

    Firefighting effort: A strike team is currently being briefed by the Naches Fire Department duty officer, and will begin working the fire so local resources can return home. A complex incident management time is inbound and is scheduled to arrive and assume command of the fire tomorrow 7/25/24.
