Jets won't grant All-Pro pass-rusher's trade request

New York Jets All-Pro pass rusher Haason Reddick may never play a snap for his new team.

Reddick reportedly asked the team for a trade Monday, per NFL insider Jordan Schultz citing multiple sources.

The eighth-year NFL veteran has been holding out for a new contract since being traded in April from Philadelphia, where he could not come to terms on a pay raise.

Reports indicate a similar disagreement is being had between the 29-year-old and New York's front office, resulting in the two-time Pro Bowl linebacker desiring to relocate for a second time this calendar year.

But shortly after the news of Reddick's request, general manager Joe Douglas put out a statement making it clear he would not be traded and would "continue to be fined per the CBA if he does not report [to practice]."

Reddick recorded 11 sacks and 38 total tackles last season in Philadelphia, appearing to be a major upgrade to the New York pass-rush which lost its sack leader, Bryce Huff, ironically to Philadelphia in free agency.

SNY reporter Connor Hughes reports New York is willing to adjust Reddick's current deal by converting non-guaranteed money into guaranteed cash but "would not commit to him until he committed to them."

So as the stalemate continues, Reddick could choose to sit out the entire year but would rack up fines for each day and game missed while New York retains his rights through next season.
