    Texas running back Christian Clark.

It has been a bad-break camp season for the Texas Longhorns as they prepare for the 2024 college football season — a campaign in which the Longhorns are expected to be a national-championship contender.

Specifically, Steve Sarkisian's crew has taken major lumps at the running back position, and that continued this week.

The latest news out of Austin is that freshman running back Christian Clark will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL.

While losing a freshman may not seem like a big deal at first glance, consider the fact that sophomore CJ Baxter, the team's leading returning rusher, was lost for the season last week due to a knee injury.

Clark, a former four-star running back from Phoenix, Arizona, was expected to be in the running for an expanded role as a freshman because of Baxter's injury.

The Longhorns now have three scholarship running backs available for 2024, with junior Jaydon Blue now the team's most experienced rusher. He carried the ball 65 times last season for 398 yards and three touchdowns.

Sophomore Quintrevion Wisner and Clark's freshman counterpart, Jerrick Gibson, will also need to now step up for the Longhorns.
