After breaking another rookie record, Caitlin Clark makes even more history

Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark was at it again on Wednesday, topping another rookie single-season record.

Clark notched three-pointer No. 86 on the season, passing Rhyne Howard (85, 2022) for the most by a first-year player in WNBA history. The first-year sensation finished with 19 points, going 3-of-12 from beyond the arc during an 84-80 win over the Connecticut Sun.

That wasn't the only history made by Clark on Wednesday. According to StatMamba , she's the first WNBA player to record at least 500 points, 250 assists and 75 three-pointers in a season.

However, there may be more record rewriting in store for Clark yet.

With eight regular-season games remaining for the Fever, Clark's rookie three-point mark will continue to rise. However, she also has an outside chance of topping the all-time single-season mark of 128 set by New York Liberty All-Star Sabrina Ionescu in 2023.

It will be challenging but not impossible. To equal Ionescu, Clark would need to average five three-pointers a game the rest of the way.

Clark has recorded five or more three-pointers three times this season. However, since the All-Star game and Olympic break, she's making (3.4) and attempting (10.0) more threes, topping her season averages (2.8, 8.5) coming into Wednesday's action.

Meanwhile, having dished out the most assists by a rookie (252 and growing) in a single season, Clark could contest the all-time mark of 316, set by Alyssa Thomas last year. Trailing the record by 62 assists, Clark simply needs to post her per-game average in helpers (8.2) over the next eight games to claim it.

Following Wednesday's outing and what may lie ahead, Clark is seemingly a lock to win Rookie of the Year honors. However, after the Fever knocked off the second-place Sun (22-8), attention should be on a potential playoff berth.

Indiana currently owns the No. 7 seed in the WNBA standings, three games better than the Chicago Sky (11-18), who occupy the final postseason spot. If all goes well over the season's last three weeks, the basketball world could get its first taste of playoff Clark.
