    Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams.

Before Caleb Williams has even suited up for an NFL regular-season game, his number has been retired.

The University of Southern California announced on Thursday that it would be retiring Williams' No. 13 that he wore in college.

Williams transferred to USC ahead of the 2022 season when Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley was hired by the Trojans. The quarterback started his collegiate career with the Sooners before heading out West to continue playing for Riley.

As a sophomore, Williams had an incredible season in 2022. He threw for 4,537 yards and 42 touchdowns. The quarterback also rushed for 10 touchdowns in his Heisman-winning campaign.

In his junior year, Williams threw for 3,633 yards, 30 touchdowns, and five interceptions in what was a poor season for USC. Even with the team's struggles, Williams was still selected first overall in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Williams is the seventh Heisman winner to have his number retired by the school. The fact that it happened before his first NFL start showcases how much of an impact the quarterback had while at USC, especially since he didn't begin his career with USC.

The rookie will be under center for Week 1 as the Chicago Bears take on the Tennessee Titans. With fellow rookie Rome Odunze lined up at wide receiver, the Bears will look to make some noise in the NFC North. The competition will be tight in the division with the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers vying for the top spot.

But Chicago is a team that could surprise fans in 2024 and perhaps even sneak into the playoffs. If the Bears do, it will be behind the performances of their rookie QB.
