What could have been: Former Ohio State QB Quinn Ewers, now with Texas, tears up Michigan

Saturday's premier matchup in Ann Arbor was between No. 3 Texas and No. 10 Michigan but the Ohio State Buckeyes were still very much involved.

Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers transferred from Columbus to Austin in 2022, citing homesickness . Ewers was also part of a full quarterback room that featured Kyle McCord and Jack Miller after C.J. Stroud left for the NFL.

Well, McCord is now in Syracuse and the Buckeyes turned to Kansas State transfer Will Howard, but Ewers has showed that maybe Ohio State should've tried to keep him around.

Ewers threw for 246 yards and three touchdowns in a 31-12 drubbing of the defending national champions.

Saturday marked the second time ever that Texas and Michigan have met, the first being in the 2005 Rose Bowl. The Longhorns prevailed 38-37 needing a last-second field goal to pull off the dramatic win.

Michigan had not lost at home in The Big House since the 2020 COVID-shortened season before Saturday and is famously 3-0 against the Buckeyes since Ewers left.

But before the season even started, Ewers may have clued Ohio State fans that he still has a sliver of his heart dedicated to the Buckeyes when eyeing this matchup.

Back in July at SEC media days, Ewers referred to Saturday's opponent as "The Team Up North," a common nomenclature Ohio State players and fans use to refer to Michigan.

"I think going up to the Big House... yeah, I mean, it's going to be an awesome environment," Ewers said. "The place is going to be rocking, especially with all the hype just because it's an early game. They're coming off of a really big win, the National Championship. And, yeah, the team up north."

Ewers is a Heisman favorite and could potentially lead Texas into a collision course with Ohio State in the expanded College Football Playoff. Both fan bases will be eagerly watching that potential storyline.
