Austin Hill holds off Chandler Smith, wins Xfinity Series race at Atlanta

Austin Hill continues to be dominant at his home track.

On Saturday, Hill won the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Atlanta, notching his fourth victory at the facility. The 30-year-old from Winston, Ga., now has seven wins at drafting tracks in his Xfinity Series career.

The win is Hill's third of the 2024 season and completes a season sweep at Atlanta.

Just like in February's Xfinity Series race at the track, Saturday's contest was decided between Hill and Chandler Smith, who dominated the early portion of the Xfinity Series season. While both drivers had rough summer stretches, they returned to early season form on Saturday, duking it out in a highly entertaining finish.

Smith got under Hill with two laps to go, but Corey Heim decided to push Hill rather than his Toyota teammate. With a run from Heim coming, Hill steered his Chevrolet Camaro up the track, blocking Heim's Supra and pulling away from the pack.

Parker Kligerman finished second in Saturday's race with AJ Allmendinger, Smith and Heim completing the top five. Jesse Love, Sammy Smith, Josh Williams, Brandon Jones and Ryan Truex rounded out the top 10.

The turning point of Saturday's race may have come with 18 laps to go when Cole Custer and Justin Allgaier crashed entering turn three. The collision between the two championship leaders triggered a big crash that also involved Riley Herbst, Ryan Sieg and Taylor Gray.

That crash took out many of the top contenders and paved the way for the four-car battle that ensued down the stretch.

The Xfinity Series' next race is next Saturday at Watkins Glen. The Mission 200 at the Glen will go green shortly after 3 p.m. ET with coverage on USA Network, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
