A portion of the Garden State Parkway in New Jersey buckled Tuesday night, forcing emergency repairs that led to major delays.Officials say a "pavement heave" occurred in the southbound lanes in Toms River, causing southbound traffic to be backed up for up to 15 miles in Ocean and Monmouth counties.Heaving happens when moisture trapped under asphalt is subjected to extreme temperatures.Officials say the right southbound lane will stay closed until repairs are completed. They said it could take several hours, but many of the delays cleared up late Tuesday.----------* Get Eyewitness News Delivered* More New Jersey news* Send us a news tip* Download the abc7NY app for breaking news alerts* Follow us on YouTubeSubmit a tip or story idea to Eyewitness NewsHave a breaking news tip or an idea for a story we should cover? Three of the dirtiest cities in America are here in NJ
When we tell outsiders where we’re from, we all get the eye roll. We’ve all heard the Jersey dis about smokestacks, pollution, litter, and grime. No one ever thinks of farmland, the gorgeous lakes and mountains, the Jersey shore, the hiking trails, the nature. All we ever hear about is the dirty reputation, which just isn’t warranted or fair.

How much does NJ complain? The answer may surprise you
Complaining and New Jersey. It almost feels like the two belong together. After all, we do have our fair share to complain about. But would it surprise you that perhaps we don't complain as much as we thought? At least, when compared to all 50 states we don't. In fact,...
