Ruth Anne Hickey Honored With Prestigious Award

Lakewood Lions Club Member Ruth Anne Hickey (standing with plaque) was recently awarded a Melvin Jones Fellowship for her efforts to make Lakewood a better place to work and live. Presenting the award was Past President Dan Comsia (seated). Jones was a Chicago business leader who formed Lions Club International in 1917 so people could put their talents to work improving their communities. Today there are 1.4 million members in 49,000 clubs in the world. The Lakewood club was started in 1954 and is the oldest service club in the community.

Superintendent Banner Receives Patriotic Employer Award
Clover Park School District Superintendent Ron Banner received the Patriotic Employer Award from the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) on June 20. ESGR, a Department of Defense office, was established in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between service members and their civilian employers. The ESGR recognizes employers that are nominated by service members for the exceptional support provided to them and their families with this honorable award. Superintendent Banner was nominated by the Director of Equity and Community Engagement, Grant Twyman for his outstanding dedication to active duty and veteran CPSD staff and their families.
