A 41-year-old man was arrested in Yelm Sunday evening on suspicion of multiple crimes, including first-degree attempted murder, after a man was shot in the head, police say.

About 7:20 p.m., police were dispatched to the 15200 block of Chad Drive Southeast. During the 911 call, dispatchers could hear someone yelling about a gun, Police Sgt. Kevin Taylor said.

Police arrived to find the suspect outside the home, where they detained him as he tried to re-enter it, Taylor said. Inside they found an adult man who had suffered a gunshot wound to his head, Taylor said.

The victim was first taken to Madigan Army Medical Center at Joint Base Lewis-McChord and then on to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Taylor said.

Taylor said the bullet passed through the victim’s cheek and the back of his head, and yet, incredibly, the last he had heard was that the victim was alert, walking and talking.

In addition to being booked on suspicion of first-degree attempted murder, the suspect also was booked on two counts of second-degree assault/domestic violence and obstructing a law enforcement officer.

Taylor said the two men knew each other, but he was unsure about the relationship.
