Police in Columbia borough said they got a report of a crocodile left in a storage unit with other small animals, according to a news release.

"Due to inadequate living conditions, it was seized by officers to be turned over to the local reptile rescue experts. You can distinguish an alligator from a crocodile by paying attention to whether the animal sees you later or in a while," read the playful news release.

Big, toothy reptiles have been in the local news a lot lately.

    Where's Wally?

York County's most famous (and probably only) emotional support alligator, Wally, disappeared when his owner, Joie Henney, was visiting friends in Georgia in April. The gator was reportedly released into a swamp and hasn't been found. The case has also been mired in a swamp of controversy. Read more about the search for Wally here.

    The Lake Redman monster

More recently, a man reported what he believes was an alligator in Lake Redman in June. So far, that gator hasn't been found either. Read more here.

    Erie gator

And the big news for our sister publication in Erie over the last couple of weeks has been a sighting of an alligator in Lake Erie - also not yet found. Read more about that here ,
