Stock up on sweets at a Sugar Expo, or witness downtown York's first Amazing Race competition, a fundraising effort for future arts and cultural events in the city.

Sample some sips during a wine class at Tutoni's, or gather your friends and get in the fall spirit with a pumpkin candle making class.

Here are some fun things to do in York County this weekend:

    Sugar Rush Expo 2024

Don't miss out on a dessert lovers paradise. Hosted at the York Fairgrounds, bring the whole family along for a day of delectable treats, games for the kids and engaging activities.

An opportunity to bond over the love of desserts, the free-admission event will feature dozens of local dessert bakers from across Central Pa. The event will also raise funds and awareness for Building Bridges for Brianna , a local organization working to prevent teen suicide.

The event will take place this Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, go to the Sugar Rush Expo event page on Facebook.

    Candle-making workshop

Create a piece of fall decor for your home at Gray Apple Market this weekend, for a fall themed candle making workshop. There, you will create 12-ounce wooden pumpkin dough bowls with plenty of fall scents to choose from including:

    • Cinnamon chai
    • Falling leaves
    • Pumpkin cheesecake
    • Cranberry apple
    • Salted butterscotch
    • Vanilla cashmere

The event will take place on Saturday, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets are $60 per person and available for purchase at appricityproductsllc.com.

    California Wine Class

Looking for a daytime date, or an afternoon out with the girls? Join Tutoni's Sommelier Taylor Small and learn how to step up your wine knowledge and taste. The 21 and older event will take place on Saturday, from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., and includes wine samples, small bites and a lesson on wine.

Tickets are $50 per person and available for purchase at Tutonis.com.

    Downtown York's first Amazing Race

Enjoy the thrill of the multi-Emmy Award-winning reality travel series. Throughout this event, teams will participate in mental, physical, and creative challenges over the course of three hours.

An effort to raise money for future arts and cultural events in downtown York to be given in grants, the event organizers hopes to secure enough funds to bring back beloved events from before the pandemic, including King Street Jam, Plein Air York, and even potential new events.

The race will take place this Saturday at noon outside The Handsome Cab restaurant. George Street will be closed for the duration of the event, and an after party will be held in the street with live music. Interested in volunteering to help with the event? Contact TheHandsomeCab@gmail.com with subject line Volunteer and let organizers know if you can help.
