Four historic community bands will converge for a Community Band Festival on July 28th at Zion Lutheran Church, at 2215 Brandywine Lane in York from 2-5 p.m.

This special event is free and will showcase performances by four of York's remaining historical community/town bands, according to a press release by the Emigsville Band.

Food trucks, craft and vendors, and other activities will be there, too.

The Red Lion-Felton Band was founded in 1892 as the Felton Band. This band is the result of a merger with the Red Lion Felton Band Concert Band in 1972. The latter formed in 1932.

The Twin Rose Community Band was formed in the 1880s as the Long Level Community Cornet Band, a result of the merger with the Columbia VFW Band. Based in Wrightsville, it derives its name from representing the White and Red Rose cities.

The Brodbecks Band was established in 1878 by Samuel Brodbeck, the organist at Stone Church, this band held its first rehearsal in the Brodbecks Schoolhouse, which is still there today. Eponymously named, it now rehearses in Spring Grove.

The Emigsville Band began life in 1872 as the Acme Cornet Band, a company band for the American Acme Company. It has retained ownership of its band hall in Emigsville since 1918.

"These bands have been an integral part of our local culture, providing music and entertainment for generations. This festival is not just a concert; it is a celebration of the enduring legacy of community bands in our region," the release says.
