On Saturday, February 3, Yorktown received a deluge of rain from thunderstorms passing through overnight and in the early morning hours. Various sources reported anywhere from 2.5 inches to 5 inches.

Once again, the creek flowed out of its banks, but fortunately, not to the extent as it did last year. The City has been working on the drainage problems discovered during the last downpour and some of the locations were put to the test Saturday.

Said Mayor Bill Baker, ““We are excited to be able to start work on drainage issues within the City of Yorktown. Between the flood of May, 2023 and recent rains it became apparent that many years of neglect on the part of the City needed to be addressed. We plan to work based on the recommendation of City Engineers and within the parameters allowed from a budget perspective.”

The ditches that have been cleared out on 6th Street were working at capacity Saturday morning with the rainwater running straight into the creek. It was nice to see many of the streets free of standing water.

Even though the creek rises fairly often, it is still an interesting sight to behold. Early Saturday morning saw Zane Thomas and his son, Alder parked near the closed road to the creek. It appeared that Alder found the sight very interesting.
