The Young County Commissioners Court received plans this week for a new RV park in Graham, but questions remain regarding the establishment of this new location.

Commissioner Scott Shook of Precinct 2 presented the plans during the county meeting Monday, Feb. 12 for the other commissioners and county judge to consider. The RV park would be located near where Hamm and Son Well Service used to be, at 640 Hwy 67.

The Hamms already have plans, the plat and a permit for the RV park location, so the commissioners were able to take a look at the idea during their meeting.

“(The Hamms) have potentially room for about 20 RV spots. They want to start out small with these five or six spots just to kind of get the doors open,” Shook said. “I’m just here to bring the paperwork on their behalf and get the approval on that so they can get started.”

The commissioners spent time looking over the map and the plans for the park, but some of what they saw raised more questions. Commissioners had concerns about entrances and exits to the park, in addition to questions about power, water and septic systems for the individual spots or the park as a whole.

The concerns about spacing arose due to the large size of recreational vehicles that would stay at the park, as well as having the ability to introduce fire and emergency vehicles into the park should issue arise.

Commissioner Jimmy Wiley of Precinct 4 also stated that the Hamms would possibly need to get another permit from the state of Texas due to an entrance to the park being on a state highway.

The plan moving forward will be for Shook to return the feedback to the Hamms, as well as ask them to attend a future meeting to discuss more details about the establishment of the RV park.

The commissioners took no action on the agenda item at this time but it is something they will continue to consider and monitor from here.

When the plans and permits are approved and everything is in order, the court will look to sign off on the creation of the park at that time.
