EUGENE, Ore. (WKBN) – Youngstown native Jahniya Bowers ran the final leg of the Ole Miss women’s track 4×100 relay on the way to claiming the national title at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championship in Eugene, Oregon Saturday.

The Ole Miss Rebels are 4×100 relay team national champions for the first time in school history. The Rebels won the relay race with a time of 42.34 seconds.

Bowers anchored the race with her teammates Akilah Lewis, McKenzie Long, and Gabrielle Matthews.

The Youngstown native graduated from Youngstown East High School. She spent the first four years of her collegiate career at Youngtown State University before transferring to Ole Miss in 2023.

During her time at YSU, she was named the Horizon League Freshman of the Year in 2020 and broke the school record in the 4×100 relay as a sophomore. In 2022, Bowers posted the fastest YSU indoor time in both the 60- and 200-meter dash.

The Rebels finished fifth out of ten universities as a team at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
