Tuesday morning, the ACLD School and Learning Center announced it had received a donation of $500,000 from Martin Solomon, a local entrepreneur and business leader.

ACLD is located downtown on East Wood Street. It’s a private not-for-profit school for children with learning difficulties in 1st through 8th grades. It offers another choice for students with learning problems in the Youngstown community and surrounding areas.

“Many people with learning problems are either underemployed or unemployed if they don’t get the help that they need. [A] significant number of the children we’ve worked with have gone on to get college education, and they’ve become valuable members of the community,” said Erica Brownfire, ACLD’s executive director

The expansion isn’t fully funded just yet, but those at the school hope to break ground later this year.
