Exciting area boxers headline Summer Slam 2024

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – South Side Boxing Club is putting on Summer Slam 2024, featuring 12 amateur bouts at Penguin City Brewery this Saturday.

“These kids are big ticket sellers. We got a lot of kids from around the area on the card, from all the gyms around the area, we got kids from Michigan coming in,” South Side Boxing Club owner Jack Loew said. “It’s a big show. We always fill the arena that night and we already sold out of ringside so we’re on our way to another sellout.”

Among the 12 bouts, Anthony Scandy III (2-0, 2 TKO) returns to the ring in the main event after taking some time off to pursue a bachelor’s degree.

“He’s a very smart kid but he wanted to come back to the ring for a little bit before he goes for his master’s degree,” Loew said.

Before that, there are also two co-main events with incoming Cardinal Mooney freshman Chris Vass and Antwan “Radio” Peoples (8-1), along with another feature event with Dontrail Burkes.

“Last time, we had to shut the doors and we had a lot of angry people so I’m telling everybody right now, we’re going to sell out,” Loew said.

The doors will open at 6 p.m. and the first bout is set for 7 p.m. at Penguin City Brewery on E. Federal Street in Youngstown.
