YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Cardinal Mooney graduate Ian Francis is transferring from Youngstown State to the University of Kansas to continue his baseball career.

Francis made the announcement on social media Monday, after entering the NCAA transfer portal back in May. He will have one year of eligibility remaining at Kansas.

Francis has played in 128 games over the last three seasons at Youngstown State.

The Penguins junior started all 58 games this season, batted .284 with a team-high 44 RBI and tied a Horizon League Championship record with four home runs in the tournament this past spring.

Francis was a three-year letter-winner at Cardinal Mooney High School and ranked as one of the top-100 prospects in the state of Ohio.

Kansas is a member of the Big 12 conference.

The Jayhawks were 31-23 overall this season and 15-15 in conference play.
