WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – A defendant from Youngstown received a sentence of five years of probation in a military benefits fraud case.

Lenda West, 60, received the sentence Wednesday in Trumbull County Court of Common Pleas after pleading guilty in March to charges of forgery and attempted telecommunications fraud.

According to a news release from the Trumbull County Prosecutor’s Office, the charges stemmed from an investigation by the Trumbull County Veterans Services office.

Prosecutors say in August 2023, West submitted a fraudulent honorable discharge form to apply for benefits and just over $8,500 was released. An investigation found that West was actually dishonorably discharged from the military, according to the release.
