FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A flood advisory has been issued for parts of eastern Fresno County by the National Weather Service in Hanford .

Doppler radar shows heavy rain in the Sierra National Forest between 3:25 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

The weather service says the thunderstorms are expected to lead to possible minor flooding in low-lying areas, including Simpson Meadow Patrol Cabin, State Lakes, Monarch Ranger Station, Le Conte Canyon Ranger Station, and Blackcap Basin.

The weather service also warns that there are hundreds of low-water crossings in this type of hilly terrain. Most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles and it only takes one foot of water to wash away a car.

In light of these statistics, drivers are cautioned against crossing flooded roads and are encouraged to find alternate routes or wait for the waters to subside.

Even if it is not raining directly overhead, arroyos (dry channels), streams, and rivers can become raging currents in a matter of minutes, according to the National Weather Service.
