FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Citizenship Day is Sept. 14, and Fresno is celebrating with music, poetry, and a tribute to Harriet Tubman.

Ashley M. Jones, the youngest and first African American Poet Laureate of Alabama, is scheduled to perform alongside an original music composition by NYC Philharmonic instructor Dr. Rebekah Griffin Green. Jones will also be recognized during the event by the City of Fresno for her commitment to working with disenfranchised youth and communities in the Central Valley.

The event will also feature a performance by Johnny Ramey, a Fresno High graduate who went on to study at Juilliard Performing Arts and Harvard.

According to event organizers, Tubman’s great-great-great-niece, Ernestine Wyatt, will also be making an appearance via livestream.

The event is free and will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Clovis North High School’s Paul Shaghoian Memorial Concert Hall.
