Driver arrested for DUI, carjacking in Merced County, CHP says

FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A driver was arrested for DUI and carjacking after CHP made a traffic stop for a person speeding in Merced County, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP says the traffic stop was on Shaffer Road, just south of Walnut Avenue. The driver pulled into a mobile home park, and the occupants tried to flee.

Officials say the officer chased the driver and was taken into custody. He was identified as 22-year-old Ivan Peralta.

Deputies from the Merced County Sheriff’s Office say the vehicle had been carjacked just before the stop was made.
