FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – The Big Fresno Fair is offering donors a free ticket voucher with the purchase of one ticket after donating blood, but it is almost impossible to truly quantify how much donated blood is worth to blood banks like the Central California Blood Center – almost.

YourCentralValley.com crunched some numbers and spoke to ambassador Tony Sosa to find the potential value of your next donation.

Selling your blood? How the Central California Blood Center funds itself

Sosa says he knows first hand the value of a pint after a car accident nearly took his life.

“If it wasn’t for those donations I wouldn’t be here talking to people, doing interviews,” Sosa said.

After his life was saved by blood donations, Sosa decided to work with the Central California Blood Center to encourage others to save lives by emphasizing just how far a pint can go.

“One adult saves three other adults, and it saves six children’s lives,” Sosa said. “So one pint can save a lot of lives.”

According to the Big Fresno Fair, the “Pint for a Pass” promotion helped collect over 6,800 donations in 2023, meaning at the very least 20,400 adults or 40,800 children potentially had their lives saved by blood donations.

In the 13 year history of the promotion, the Big Fresno Fair says the promotion has helped collect 124,000 pints of blood. That much blood has the potential to save over 300,000 adult lives or 700,000 children’s lives.

Sosa says no matter who you are, you too can benefit from donated blood, from pregnant women, men, children, even babies, no one is exempt from needing a donation.

The Pint for a Pass will continue through Oct. 14, those interested in donating can find their nearest Central California Blood Center blood bank here .
