SANGER, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Screams, groans, and zombie crawls were displayed by some of the valley’s best in Sunday’s auditions for Hobb’s Grove.

Kenny Granillo has been a scare actor and DJ for Hobb’s Grove for the last three years and says it is the best experience.

“I look forward to doing this gig every single year. I get to DJ out of a coffin which is so fun, so cool. I get to scare people but also play Halloween music the whole time. Halloween is always the vibe,” Granillo said.

Event organizers were looking for the best haunts and had applicants display their best  Screaming, Zombie and Ogre walks, Witch cackling, Vampire moves, Growls, Roars, and Wolf howling— ending with a final kill and death scene.

Krislyn Peterson and her friend Victoria Mercaldo come annually to the auditions and say it is nothing short of fun. Peterson even won the best scream contest.

“It was super relaxed and fun and exciting. It was more just like a conversation with the owners and we had a great time,” Peterson said.

Granillo says three years ago he showed up just like everyone else did for the first time, added he DJ’d, and the rest was history. He tries to return the welcome he initially received now that he is on the mic.

“You’re gonna get seen by hundreds of people walking through the haunt so you gotta be able to be yourself or be another character and just really tune into that. We let ’em have fun, we hone ’em in when we need to and yeah its great fun around here,” Granillo said.

Granillo closes by saying anyone is welcome to come to the midway part of Hobb’s Grove for free and enjoy the music, vendors, and scares.

Hobb’s Grove this year will take place from Oct. 4 to Nov. 2.
