FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Two men are hospitalized after they collided with a tree in Yokuts Valley Saturday evening, the California Highway Patrol announced.

CHP says around 7:40 p.m. they received a report of a vehicle versus a tree on Elwood Road north of Highway 180 in Yokuts Valley.

Investigators determined the truck was traveling northbound on Elwood Road when for reasons yet to be determined the driver veered to the right, traveling about 200 feet before colliding into a tree.

Officers report as a result the driver sustained major injuries and was airlifted to a local hospital. His passenger sustained moderate injuries and was transported to the hospital via ground.

CHP says both men appeared to be wearing seatbelts. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol are a factor.

    This is an ongoing investigation.
