FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – An email sent out to a number of Fresno State students Tuesday morning attempted to trick recipients into giving up their passwords.

A copy of the email seen by YourCentralValley.com shows that it was supposedly sent by “dos@mail.fresnostate.edu” and is from “Campus Communications.” The email warns the recipient that their Fresno State Portal will supposedly be deactivated the next day unless they take action.

The message states that those who want to “avoid disruption in accessing email resources” should click the included link “for instant resolution.”

In a statement, Fresno State told YourCentralValley.com that, shortly after this message went out, another was sent with instructions on changing their passwords in case anyone had clicked the phishing link.

Technology Services is actively working to mitigate this issue and enhance our email security measures.

That second email sent out also warned users what to do when they receive suspicious emails (such as not clicking the links or downloading attachments) and how to report them to Fresno State.
