FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A woman is dead after the car she was driving crashed into a semi-truck hauling pistachios in Fresno County, the California Highway Patrol said.

Officers responded to a possible traffic collision in the area of Highway 180 and Hayes Avenue in Fresno County at around 1:20 p.m. on Friday.

CHP says a big rig was traveling eastbound on Highway 180, approaching Hayes Avenue, while at the same time, a Toyota Camry was approaching the intersection as well. The driver of the Toyota, a woman in her early 60s, drove into the path of the semi-truck.

According to CHP, the truck collided with the Toyota Camry and both came to rest on the shoulder. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver of the truck, a man in his 30s, remained at the scene.

Investigators say the crash also caused the truck to spill its load of pistachios on Highway 180, which caused delays for drivers in the area.

Officers say alcohol or drugs do not seem to be a factor in this collision. The identity of either driver involved in the crash have not been officially released.
