Eastern Michigan Football: 2024 Eagles Season Preview and Prediction
By Athlon Sports,
Eastern Michigan was disappointed with its 6-7 finish and bowl game loss to South Alabama. The quarterback play figures to be improved after the arrival of Buffalo transfer Cole Snyder, which in turn will help the running game as the offensive line gets rebuilt. Defensively, the Eagles should be solid at all three levels if they can stay healthy. A return to a bowl game looks to be in the works.
Eastern Michigan 2024 Season Preview and Prediction
Previewing Eastern Michigan's Offense for 2024
Quarterback play was a major issue for Eastern Michigan last season, and head coach Chris Creighton is hoping he has the solution in Buffalo graduate transfer Cole Snyder. In two seasons as the Bulls starter, Snyder threw 31 touchdowns and 17 interceptions, averaging 206 passing yards per game and completing 57 percent of his throws.
The Eagles lost their top three running backs, but incoming transfer Delbert Mimms III (NC State) impressed in the spring. Mimms ran for eight touchdowns for the Wolfpack last season. At wide receiver, JB Mitchell III is the leading returning receiver and will be Snyder’s primary target. Other wideouts to watch: NC State transfer Porter Rooks and sophomore Makhail Wood, who the coaches feel has a high ceiling. Tight end Jere Getzinger emerged late last season and could be more of an option.
The offensive line has two starters back in center Carson Lee and guard Mickey Rewolinksi. Improvement will be needed from a unit that gave up 32 sacks and failed to open many holes in the run game.
Eastern Michigan lost three projected defensive starters by the end of its first game in 2023. All three of those injured players are back, plus a high-profile transfer in the middle of the defense. Linebacker JT Killen comes in from Coastal Carolina, where he made 65 tackles after earning a starting spot as a senior, and he arrives with 55 games of experience. Linebacker Zach Mowchan was lost in the opener last season and will form a strong duo with Killen.
On the defensive line, nose guard Peyton Price has NFL potential, and Justin Jefferson was disruptive with 11 QB hurries and 7.5 tackles for a loss. Carter Evans returns from injury and is projected to regain a starting spot.
In the secondary, Joshua Scott returns after missing 2023 and will be a candidate for All-MAC honors, as will Daiquan White, who had a stellar true freshman season in which he led the team with 12 PBUs.

Punter Mitchell Tomasek (44.1 yards per punt) was first-team All-MAC, and kicker Jesús Gómez hit two field goals from beyond 50 yards and was 12-for-16 overall. Eastern Michigan was second in the MAC in both punt and kickoff returns last season.
