After unprecedented run of dominance in six years as coach, Mike Warfield stepping away from Aliquippa for ‘temporary’ leave of absence
The start of high school football season is still more than a month away, but the WPIAL football world just got turned upside down. After guiding Aliquippa to four WPIAL championships, three state titles and an overall record of 74-6 in six years at the helm at his alma mater — capped off by a 14-0 season in 2023 for the school’s first undefeated season in its long and storied history — Mike Warfield has informed the team he is stepping away for a “temporary” leave of absence and will not be coaching this season.
Butler Track & Field Teams Notch 9th Nationally for GPA
The Butler men’s and women’s track and field teams were recognized for their continued accomplishments in the classroom, earning NCAA Division I Track & Field USTFCCCA All-Academic Team recognition. The honorees were announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Monday. When combining the men’s and women’s GPAs, Butler’s program ranked ninth nationally for the 2023-24 season. Butler’s combined GPA has been among the nation’s Top 10 for seven consecutive years. Sarver, PA (July 13, 2024) With a sweltering summer night surrounding The Action Track, a different kind of Fab4 racing returned on Friday night as visits from the BRP Modified Tour and the Elite Motorsports UEMS Emod Racing Series highlighted the evening’s racing card with the Peoples Natural Gas Sprint cars and Millerstown Pic-A-Part Pro Stocks also on the menu, continuing their weekly racing seasons. Two local college players are currently playing basketball in Poland. Robert Morris’ sophomore forward Alvaro Folgueiras is competing at the U20 European Championships in Poland, representing his home country of Spain. He has led the team to a 3-0 record in the group stage competition so far. He has grabbed four rebounds in two of the three games, and scored six, eight, and zero points in the three games. Folgueiras is averaging over 14 minutes per game.

Sewickley Academy restarts girls golf program
The girls golf program at Sewickley Academy has been revamped. It is one of eight new girls golf programs in the WPIAL, including five in Class 2A — Belle Vernon, Beaver, Ellwood City, North Catholic and SA. The three new teams in Class 3A are Latrobe, Plum and Trinity.
Penn State All 105: Mars’ Ben Chizmar
All 105 is a Nittany Sports Now series profiling each Penn State football player. Here’s a profile of walk-on linebacker Ben Chizmar. Before Penn State: Chizmar played at Mars Area High School in the Pittsburgh Area for all four years, becoming a senior captain and winning the defensive MVP in both his junior and senior campaigns. Chizmar also starred in lacrosse, where he was an all-district defender, helping Mars to three district championships and a state runner-up finish as a senior. Chizmar committed to walk-on at Penn State ahead of the 2021 season.
