NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A former New York bank manager was sentenced on Tuesday to prison after pleading guilty to plotting to hire a hitman to murder her brother-in-law, prosecutors said.

Reshma Massarone was sentenced to 114 months in prison after pleading guilty to murder-for-hire, Damian Williams, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced.

“The defendant devised a chilling plan to have a member of her own family murdered for the low price of ten thousand dollars,” Williams said. “Her plan was unthinkably heartless. For this depraved crime, Reshma Massarone will spend 114 months in federal prison.”

According to court documents, Massarone plotted with an individual to hire a hitman to murder her brother-in-law for $10,000. The individual was an undercover cop who was gathering evidence against Massarone to prove that she was plotting to have the victim murdered.

Massarone was in contact with the undercover cop and sent dozens of messages on social media and had numerous phone calls with him, trying to get him to murder the victim or hire someone who would.

For example, in a Facebook message, the cop told her that the plan to murder her brother-in-law was set for the next day, to which Massarone replied that if the cop “take(s) care of business,” then he would get paid. The defendant also told the cop that she had other “jobs” for him and swore on her kids’ lives that he would get paid if he “(got) rid” of the victim for her.

After that, Massarone told the cop, “No more text.”

As part of the plan, Massarone wired $2,500 to the undercover cop to give to the hitman as a down payment for the victim’s murder. Video surveillance at a Western Union captured Massarone counting 25 $100 bills, for a total of $2,500, according to court documents.

After Massarone wired the money, she continued to plan the victim’s murder. When the undercover cop told Massarone that the hitman’s plan was to shoot the victim and that there was “no turning back,” Massarone replied, “Right. No turning back.”

The victim was never murdered. As time passed, Massarone grew impatient with the undercover cop and told him to murder the victim, “rat poison can do a great job.” She later told the cop, “You is all talk and no action,” and “Come on do the thing and I will take care of you.”

Massarone then threatened to find someone else to murder the victim, saying, “Either way, if I find somebody to do the job, you’re going to get blamed, so cut the bulls**t and let’s get it done.”

In addition to the prison sentence, Massarone, 40, was sentenced to three years of supervised release.
