West Virginia opened the 2024 season with a 34-12 loss to Penn State on Saturday afternoon. The Mountaineers got off to a slow start, and eventually fell behind after allowing a touchdown to end the first half and another one to start the second (after a long lightning delay). A late touchdown from CJ Donaldson was the only time the Mountaineers got into the endzone. EerSports was in attendance, both in the press box and on the sidelines. The secondary remains a work in progress for the Wildcats. Kentucky is 1-0 after a 31-0 victory that ended prematurely against Southern Mississippi. With several new faces on the roster, it was interesting to learn who would be starting, who would be playing the most and who would be coming off the bench in reserve. It was disappointing that the two teams could not play the game out as it would have provided valuable playing experience for some of the young, more inexperienced players on the roster.

Ohio State is through the first week of the 2024 season. The Buckeyes started the new year off 1-0 with a 52-6 win against Akron on Saturday afternoon at Ohio Stadium. The Buckeyes got off to a slow start against the Zip, trailing 3-0 early in the game, before finding their rhythm and running away with the victory. While the offense didn't get going until just before halftime, the defense played as expected, allowing only 177 total yards and keeping Akron out of the red zone or the endzone and forcing three turnovers, two of which were returned for touchdowns.

During my childhood, when my family visited relatives “across the river,” in Bayou Plaquemine, Bayou Goula, Caddo, the Pointe, and White Castle, my siblings and I would sometimes race up and down the levees, some distance away from the cows grazing there.
