    Flying Colors Butterfly Festival

Get ready to spread your wings! The 25th annual Flying Colors Butterfly Festival is coming to Chattahoochee Nature Center in Roswell on June 1st and 2nd. This North Atlanta tradition invites visitors to get a close-up view of the colorful butterflies and learn about the power of pollinators.

The festival will be held from 9am - 3pm on Saturday, June 1, and 12pm - 5pm on Sunday, June 2.

The Butterfly Festival is the grand opening for the famous Butterfly Encounter, which remains open through August 11. This large, enclosed greenhouse features hundreds of butterflies flitting around the native plants they love to eat.

It’s not all about butterflies, however. Did you know bees, moths, wasps, and birds are some of our best pollinators? Each plays a vital role in maintaining a healthy ecosystem. Experts will be on-site to educate you on the best ways to support your pollinators, and activities for all ages will be available for this two-day event.

Tickets are $25 and are timed and limited, but they may be able to accommodate walk-ups depending on daily visitation. Purchasing tickets in advance guarantees admission. Children 2 and under are FREE.

Other activities and events during the Butterfly Festival include...

    Migration Game

Get those wings pumping and journey down the migration path with the Migration Game!

At each station, kids of all ages can explore the life cycle of monarch butterflies. They will learn incredible monarch facts from when the female lays her eggs until the new generation of butterflies makes its destined journey from the United States down to Mexico.

    Alma Mexicana Atlanta Dancers

The fantastic Alma Mexicana Atlanta dancers return this year to don vibrant costumes and showcase Mexican culture through “danza folklórica Mexicana,” or Mexican folk dances.

If their hypnotic movements don’t enchant you, the music certainly will! Director Hilda Lucía Estrella de Lev brings her 30 years of dancing experience as she continues to invoke smiles from her audience.

    Native Plant Sale

Check out the native plant sale, where experienced horticulturists will show you how to establish your own pollinator garden and use cleaner, greener gardening practices for your home. For example, plant in multiples instead of a single flowering plant to attract more pollinators.

Are you looking to add more caterpillars? Select the right host plants for butterflies to safely lay their eggs. Want to support healthy butterflies and bees? Pass on the pesticides!
