We wrap up the offensive side of the ball on our Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp preview with the quarterbacks.

The Chiefs are on top of the world with Patrick Mahomes in his prime, fresh off yet another Super Bowl MVP. With a couple of new weapons in town - receivers Hollywood Brown and Xavier Worthy - Mahomes could be even more dangerous in 2024.

There's a new backup quarterback in town in veteran Carson Wentz. He should be a natural fit in coach Andy Reid's offense after spending several years in Reid's former offensive coordinator Doug Pederson's scheme. If Mahomes has to miss extended time with an injury, Wentz should be able to keep the Chiefs afloat.

Behind Wentz is second-year man Chris Oladokun and fourth-year veteran Ian Book, who will battle it out for the third string job. Let's take a deeper look at how the QB position will round out for K.C. this season.

    The starter:

    Patrick Mahomes

What the depth behind Mahomes could like:

Wentz is firmly entrenched as the backup quarterback. He signed a one-year, $3.325 million contract with K.C. this past offseason, and could potentially earn an extension as the team's long-term backup if he plays well. That's also dependent on the development of Oladokun and Book.

Oladokun had a nice preseason last year, completing 16 of 26 passes for 181 yards and a touchdown, while also adding 37 rushing yards. Oladokun provides a dual threat with his running ability. He also played a crucial role in the Chiefs' preparation for the Baltimore Ravens in last year's AFC Championship Game by simulating Lamar Jackson during practice .

As camp begins, Oladokun should have the edge for the third string job. Book, who is more of a traditional drop back passer, will try to unseat him. Book started a regular season game for the New Orleans Saints in 2021, throwing for 135 yards and two interceptions. Following that, he bounced around on the Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots' practice squad before landing in K.C. on a reserve/future contract.

Who is on the trading block:

Though the odds are low, if Oladokun or Book have a tremendous camp and preseason, it's possible the Chiefs explore the possibility of trading Wentz. On the flip side, if Oladokun or Book play well, perhaps another team takes notice and offers K.C. a late-round pick for one of them.

Biggest training camp sleeper: Chris Oladokun

Oladokun has a lot of physical gifts. He can run, he has a strong arm and throws accurately on the run. He also provides value to the Chiefs' defense when it has to prepare to face a mobile QB. Another year on the practice squad is likely for Oladokun, but he could push for the No. 2 job soon.
