One Philadelphia Eagles player that's hard not to root for ahead of NFL training camp

NFL training camp is important for everyone, but some players more than others.

And for the Philadelphia Eagles, that "some player" is cornerback Isaiah Rodgers. Sure, you could argue that James Bradberry is another player who can't afford to slack off, but that's an obvious one and a more desperate measure.

As for Rodgers, he's not only getting a second chance at turning his life around following a reckless gambling suspension , but he also gets to prove to the league that he's one of the best at his position by making the 53-man roster.

However, that will all start with a solid training camp performance.

The Eagles currently have 15 cornerbacks competing for a roster spot, though Rodgers has already put himself in a great spot ahead of training camp.

He put on a show during OTAs and mandatory minicamp, which earned him some high praise from fellow cornerback Darius Slay.

"It's been amazing, man," Slay said when asked about Rodgers during mincamp. "He's been a great addition. I've been seeing him making plays. I watched the film a couple of times. He made a lot of P-B-Us (pass breakups). He's the next one that wants to race me because he thinks he's faster than me too so, we're going to have to make that happen. I'm going to have to race him but other than that, he's been a good addition. He's been great. Man, I watched his tape in Indy and he was making plays there. Great on special teams as a returner, so he's got a lot of tools.

"I'm looking forward to seeing him in action because he can do it all, outside, inside whatever he needs to do. We've got a lot of guys in the secondary this year that can be very versatile."

Rodgers, 26, was originally a sixth-round pick out of UMass by the Indianapolis Colts in the 2020 NFL draft.

Before his 2023 year-long suspension, Rodgers was a key contributor on Indianapolis' special teams and widely considered a promising up-and-coming cornerback in the league.

In three seasons with the Colts, Rodgers saw action in 45 games and made 10 starts where he logged 88 tackles, 10 passes defended, and three interceptions.

Rodgers will have to consistently outplay Bradberry, Kelee Ringo and rookie Quinyon Mitchell through training camp if he plans on turning his comeback story into a reality.

And like many Eagles fans, we're rooting for him.
