The Dallas Cowboys really need wide receiver Jalen Tolbert to make a leap in Year 3 of his NFL career. We're only one day into training camp but he's getting started with his highlight reel.

On Thursday, the first practice of training camp, Tolbert stabbed a football in the red zone with full-arm extension in a fade route, beating All-Pro cornerback DaRon Bland in the process. The back-shoulder grab was made even more impressive as Tolbert held on to the football going to the ground.

Out of all the receivers you'd want shining in camp if you're the Cowboys, Tolbert is probably at the top of the list. The offense knows what it's got in CeeDee Lamb even amid his ongoing holdout and in veteran Brandin Cooks but WR3 remains a major question mark , with Tolbert even facing some competition from Jalen Brooks and return specialist KaVontae Turpin.

Tolbert's career path in the NFL has had its ups and downs. As a third-round rookie, he self-admittedly struggled to understand the game, which led to only two catches in 2022. Fast forward to 2023 and he essentially benched the recently-retired Michael Gallup halfway through the season. However, he still only recorded 22 catches, leaving plenty of question marks about his game.

Given the Cowboys adopted a pass-aggressive approach on offense last season, emerging as WR3 would be a massive opportunity for Tolbert as targets should be plentiful. But first things first: He's got to earn the job in camp.

He's off to a fast start based on the play above but there's a long way to go before the season opener in September 8th.
