The Kansas City Chiefs are getting set to face the Jacksonville Jaguars on the road during Week 1 of the 2024 NFL preseason .

While the majority of players on the 90-man offseason roster will be available to play, the Chiefs are expected to be without several players on Saturday. The Chiefs typically don't declare players as "inactive" during the preseason and to this point, only one player has been ruled out.

Here's a quick overview of the injury situation ahead of the team's first preseason game.

Only one Chiefs player has been formally ruled out

LG Joe Thuney suffered a pec injury during the playoffs last season and even though he's been activated, he won't suit up on Saturday.

“Joe (Thuney) will not (play)," Chiefs HC Andy Reid told reporters on Wednesday.

Thuney was removed from the active/PUP list on July 28 , but he has yet to participate in training camp practice outside of individual drills and position work.

Three Chiefs players remain on injury lists and aren't expected to play

S Justin Reid has been on the non-football injury list with a quad injury throughout training camp thus far. He's indicated on social media that he's getting closer to making a return, but don't expect him to make his debut on Saturday.

DE BJ Thompson has been on the active/non-football illness list since he suffered a seizure and cardiac arrest in team meetings back in June. Chiefs K Harrison Butker recently indicated that Thompson is a few weeks away from making his return.

DE Charles Omenihu remains on the active/PUP list after suffering a torn ACL in the AFC Championship Game last year. Don't expect him to be ready to participate in football activities for several months.

Chiefs players who should be considered "questionable" given their practice status on Wednesday

LB Nick Bolton suffered an elbow injury during practice on the 31st of July. He dealt with bursitis in the same elbow during the 2024 NFL season. It seems like the team is acting out of an abundance of caution trying to keep Bolton healthy for the season after he was hampered by injuries a year ago.

LB Swayze Bozeman suffered a hyperextended knee during practice on Wednesday. We don't yet know the extent of the damage, but he's unlikely to be available to play against the Jaguars on Saturday.

WR Jaaron Hayek has missed a few practice sessions with a shoulder injury. It's unclear if he'll be able to suit up and play on Saturday.

DT Chris Jones has dealt with a groin injury and missed the final two practices of the week with a shoulder injury. I'd expect the Chiefs to keep their star defender on the sidelines for this one.

CB Kelvin Joseph has been nursing a hamstring injury for over a week now. It was described as a " slight hamstring " by Andy Reid, which typically suggests a minor injury. We'll see if he's able to get back out there on Saturday.

OL Wanya Morris banged his knee during practice on Wednesday. It was a scary moment, but he ultimately was able to tough out the injury and return to practice. It's unclear if he'll be good to go for the game on Saturday.

WR Kadarius Toney has dealt with an ankle injury and back tightness during training camp so far. He needs to be out there and playing, but there's no telling if he'll be able to go at this point.

DT Derrick Nnadi passed his physical and was removed from the active/PUP list this past week following last season's triceps injury. He hadn't participated in team drills during practice yet and I suspect he won't be ready to play in this game.
